Postdoctoral Scientist - Cedars-Sinai Cancer

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center ranks among the nation's top ten non-university hospitals receiving federal funding for research and currently has more than 1,500 active research projects. Cedars-Sinai Cancer supports basic and clinical research in many cancer-related areas and researchers are seeking more effective ways to diagnose, treat and prevent many forms of cancer.

Postdoctoral scientist opportunities are available in the Theodorescu laboratory at Cedars-Sinai.  Dr. Theodorescu is a nationally recognized translational cancer researcher and Principal Investigator of an NIH/NCI-funded laboratory, leading expert in bladder cancer, and newly appointed Director of Cedars-Sinai Cancer. The postdoctoral scientists will work independently on research projects under the supervision of the principal investigator. Featured Postdoctoral Opportunities

Theodorescu Lab | Drug Discovery The Theodorescu lab has made significant contributions in the area of drug discovery. These contributions include discovery and development of a “first in class” RalGTPase inhibitor as a new therapeutic in several human cancer types (Nature. 2014 20;515(7527):443-7). Using functional genomics screens and transcriptomics on human cell lines and tumor tissues, we have identified several candidate genes that confer resistance to commonly used chemotherapeutics in bladder cancer and other tumors. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to further develop this work by defining the mechanism of action of how these genes alter resistance to such drugs such as cisplatinum, gemcitabine and others including small molecules. Theodorescu Lab | ImmunologyIn this project, the postdoctoral researcher will be characterizing the tumor microenvironment of bladder cancer, with emphasis on mechanisms of immune-evasion orchestrated by tumor cells while also identifying immune system agonists or antagonists that modulate tumor behavior in vivo. Our goal is to identify novel biomarkers and interventions for cancer that will improve patient outcomes. The successful candidate will be a driven, creative, team-oriented individual with a passion for helping to discover and move fundamental cancer biologic findings towards a clinical setting. We employ many different in vitro and in vivo approaches and seek individuals with a strong background in cell and molecular immunology. Theodorescu Lab | Telomerase The Theodorescu Lab has made significant contributions in telomerase biology including finding a high frequency of TERT promoter mutations, the impact of these TERT mutations on TERT expression, and the clinical relevance of these mutations in patients. We seek a highly motivated individual to further discover and investigate the role of TERT, its regulators and effectors, in cancer progression and metastasis. The laboratory has ongoing drug discovery projects directed at key molecules involved in telomerase biology. (Requisition #19002008, https://jobs.cedars-sinai.edu/job/los-angeles/postdoctoral-scientist-telomerase-cancer-institute/252/11912753) (Requisition #19002008)

The successful candidates will have a PhD degree in molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, biochemistry or related field. Candidate may be recent PhD recipients or individuals seeking additional postdoctoral training. Strong preference will be given to individuals with proven track record of productivity.
