Tenure-track Assistant Professor Position
The Department of Materials Science (MSE) at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, in the area of Synthesis and Processing of Multi-Materials, with an expected start date of July 1, 2020. The area is focused on innovations in synthesis and processing routes to enable the development of hybrid composite materials, coating systems, devices with 3D architectures, metamaterials and biomimetic hybrid materials, etc., exploiting the integration of self-assembly, novel materials chemistry and additive manufacturing approaches. Outstanding candidates should demonstrate the potential to build a world-class research program in materials science and engineering with a focus on synthesis and processing on multi-materials and a commitment to education and mentorship of students, to equity and inclusion, and to service to the campus and the materials science and engineering profession worldwide.
A PhD (or equivalent international degree) or being enrolled in PhD (or equivalent international degree) granting program at the time of application is required. Preferred qualifications: it is expected that the candidate will demonstrate the potential for collaborative, interdisciplinary research within the broad material science and engineering community at UC Berkeley and will contribute to advancing the education mission of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering through teaching and student mentorship. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of (i) potential to build a world-class research program in materials science and engineering with a focus on synthesis and processing of multi-materials, (ii) commitment to education and mentorship of students, (iii) commitment to equity and inclusion, and (iv) commitment to service to the campus and the materials science and engineering profession worldwide.
