Job Details

MD Anderson Cancer is seeking a Medical Assistant in its League City HAL location. Ideal candidate will have one year of Medical Assistant experience and will be a certified or registered Medical Assistant. Experience preferably in an ambulatory setting.

SALARY RANGE

$33,200 - $41,500 - $49,800

SUMMARY

This position is located in the League City HAL. The primary purpose of the Medical Assistant position is to provide patient care and customer service assistance to the ambulatory care patient as delegated and support daily operations of the center.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Assists with patient examinations, treatments and procedures. Prepares / stocks rooms and escorts patients to rooms. Obtains vital signs and prepares patients for physician's care. Documents in the medical record patient care entries and completed lab work. Reviews and sorts incoming lab results and forwards reports for review. Collects laboratory specimens and performs waived laboratory testing (such as finger stick glucose and EKG tests). Provides transportation of patients for discharge or transfer to other areas in the hospital. Must position, lift and move patients as needed. Cleans, stores, prepares and coordinates maintenance of medical equipment. Maintains inventories of laboratory and medical supplies. Processes all required paperwork. Instructs patients as to test preparations according to planned procedure. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.

EXPERIENCE

Required: One year of medical assistant experience. With preferred degree, no experience is required.

Preferred: One year Medical Assistant experience; preferably in an ambulatory setting.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Required: None

Preferred: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
