The Department of Integrative Biology (IB) at the University of California, Berkeley invite applications for a full-time tenure-track position in vertebrate physiology at the Assistant Professor level. The expected start date is July 1, 2020.

We seek exceptional candidates who study any vertebrate taxon, and who can also relate their research to human physiology. We seek a colleague to join a department with strong multidisciplinary emphases, and to complement and bridge already strongly-represented fields such as ecology, comparative biomechanics, endocrinology, genomics, human origins, and evolutionary biology. Representative areas of interest include (but are not limited to) evolutionary and behavioral physiology, interactions between humans (and other primates) and pathogens, microbiome effects on organismal physiology and health, physiological effects of anthropogenic change, comparative metabolic physiology, neuroethology in an evolutionary or ecological context, mechanisms of physiological adaptation, and mechanisms of aging.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a first-class externally-funded active field and/or laboratory research program that trains graduate and undergraduate students, and must possesses a commitment to education, outreach and service. They will also be expected to have a strong interest in both undergraduate and graduate teaching, and to contribute to instruction in core courses of vertebrate physiology as well as in their specific area of expertise.

Required Minimum Basic Qualifications:
-Must be enrolled in a Ph.D. degree or equivalent international degree program at time of application.

Additional Qualifications:
-Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) must be held by start date

Preferred Qualifications:
-PhD in vertebrate physiology, or some related field
-Ability to communicate effectively
-Highly motivated
-Interested in undergraduate and graduate teaching, and public outreach
