Senior Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education

Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) is conducting a national search for a Senior Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education (SADRGE). Reporting to the President and Dean of the Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM), the Senior Associate Dean will serve in a new leadership role overseeing the further growth and development of MSM’s translational research capabilities, the expansion of MSM’s program for Graduate Education in Biomedical Sciences (GEBS), and the integration of the entire research enterprise with the graduate curriculum at MSM.

The inaugural SADRGE will be a visionary leader who knows how to effectively drive change in a social mission-driven, system-oriented environment. The individual must be a nationally recognized leader in research and education with a track record of continuous NIH or equivalent funding.  Should the SADRGE be a physician, it is anticipated that he/she will participate in clinical services in the appropriate clinical department. He/she will identify and hire an Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Research and an Associate Dean for GEBS, as well as support targeted hiring of additional funded basic science and clinical research faculty.  This individual must have experience and success in a leadership role that fostered research education and training for health science students, graduate students, GME trainees, and/or junior faculty, fellows, and residents. Knowledge of current national and international interests and directions in research and education is required. Also required will be the ability to oversee the development of curricula and courses that bridge relevant academic disciplines and environments (medicine, clinical care, public health, business development, etc.). The SADRGE will foster innovation and excellence in the creation and expansion of new areas of education and research that leverage technologies that can potentially have a revolutionary impact on research.  Leading sponsored research development at MSM, the SADRGE will develop a clear vision, mission, and strategic plan to support and improve faculty success in seeking and obtaining external support for mission-related research and outreach initiatives, including support from state and federal governmental sources and from private foundations. He/she will also identify resources to expand and strengthen the operations of MSM’s research current research infrastructure. The SADRGE will also oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures, including compliance, safety, and the responsible conduct of research.
