Postdoctoral Research Fellow

What if your career could change your life?

Working at Mayo Clinic is making a difference. It's providing the highest quality patient care by placing the needs of patients first. At Mayo Clinic, you'll discover a culture of teamwork, professionalism and mutual respect — and most importantly, a life-changing career.

A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator.

A postdoctoral research fellow position is available to study the role of the human microbiome in the laboratory of Dr. Marina Walther-António at Mayo Clinic. The position is better suited for a microbiologist, microbial ecologist or clinical microbiologist, and someone with a microscopy and bacterial culturing background, particularly experience with anaerobic microorganisms. We have brought to Mayo Clinic a newly developed platform – Optofluidics – automated advanced microscope with integrated multiple optical laser tweezers in a microfluidics platform, which allows the visual manipulation and isolation of microbial cells for single-cell whole genome amplification and other applications. We will use this single-cell platform to discern microbial-microbial and microbial-host interactions.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Must have a Ph.D., in a field deemed relevant by the program.

Achieve more with the nation’s top hospital (U.S.News & World Report, 2018-2019), ranked No. 1 in more specialties than any other care provider. Joining Mayo Clinic means working at the heart of an integrated, multidisciplinary academic medical center with comprehensive programs in medical education and research that span across three group practice sites. It’s also the opportunity to support a vibrant research enterprise, with programs in clinical, basic and population sciences. In 2015, the institution received nearly $382 million in extramural research awards, supplemented with over $281 million of institutional support. Being a part of Mayo Clinic’s large institution allows for sustained intramural funding, capital equipment funding, technical and computational resources, and exceptional benefits.
