Faculty Positions in Biomedical Sciences (Pre-Clinical)

Located in the Longgang District of Shenzhen, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK (SZ)) is a research-intensive university established in 2014 through a Mainland-Hong Kong collaboration with generous support from the Shenzhen Municipal Government. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).  It aspires to become a world class research university with a mission to nurture top talents with global perspective, Chinese culture and social responsibility.   The University offers a broad spectrum of courses in its Schools of Science and Engineering, Management and Economics, Humanities and Social Science, and Life and Health Sciences and will continue to develop its academic programmes. Up to now, more than 4,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students are studying at CUHK (SZ) and its long-term goal is a student population of 7,500 undergraduate and 3,500 postgraduate domestic and international students.  English is the main medium of course instruction, and the students will receive degrees of CUHK. In January 2019, CUHK and CUHK (SZ) signed a Cooperation Agreement with the Shenzhen Municipal Government for the establishment of a School of Medicine adjacent to CUHK (SZ) main campus with a network of direct and affiliated teaching hospitals.  The new CUHK (SZ) School of Medicine aims to be an international medical centre that nurtures high-end medical professionals, conducts innovative medical research, and provides a comprehensive range of high-quality medical services.  It will be built upon the successful model of CUHK Faculty of Medicine and a Joint Task Force comprising representatives from CUHK and CUHK (SZ) has been set up to lead and oversee the project.  

Position Specifications

CUHK (SZ) invites applications from interested faculty members from around the world for positions of Professor/ Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor in Biomedical Sciences. Qualified candidates must have an earned doctoral degree in medicine or biomedical sciences, postdoctoral training and work experience in related research areas. Applicants for Professors and Associate Professors should have an established research programme with funding history, excellent publication record, and independent research and teaching activities. Preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience in basic pre-clinical medical sciences including anatomy, histology, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, microbiology, immunology, pathology and related discipline. The successful applicants will actively participate in the planning and preparation of the new School of Medicine. 

CUHK (SZ) adopts a tenure-track system for Assistant Professors and above. Initial appointments will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially and, subject to performance and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or tenure. Senior positions with tenure will be considered for outstanding candidates with proven records.

Salary will be highly competitive and commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Appointments will be made under the establishment of CUHK (SZ), and employee benefits will be provided according to the relevant labor laws of China as well as CUHK (SZ) regulations.
