The Clinical Assistant Professor will teach primarily in the gross anatomy lectures and laboratories, conduct support instruction in the histology lectures and laboratories in the veterinary professional curriculum, and perform other duties as assigned. He/she will mentor professional and graduate students and contribute service at the department, school, and university levels and within his/her professional sphere.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teaching primarily in the gross anatomy lectures and laboratories, conducting support instruction in the histology lectures and laboratories in the professional curriculum, preparation of cadavers for laboratory dissection, preparation of demonstration prosections, and other duties as assigned
  • Mentoring professional and graduate students and providing anatomical specimens and consultation to clinicians and researchers
  • Contributing service at the department, school, and university levels and within his/her professional sphere
  • Provide teaching instruction to Graduate Students

Minimum Qualifications:

DVM, MD, or PhD in Veterinary Medical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or related field

Must have proven strong and distinguished teaching and mentoring skills. Must have the ability to relate anatomic features to relevant clinical veterinary diseases and conditions in the major domestic animal species. Must have proven leadership ability and be able to work in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

DVM or equivalent with 3+ years’ experience in a major teaching role in a gross anatomy laboratory setting and experience in, or played a major role in the design or implementation of innovative teaching models, experience in managing teaching facilities, and should have contributed service to his/her current institution and profession at all levels (classroom, school, university, etc.) within his/her professional sphere.

Special or Physical Qualifications:

Must be able to lift items weighing up to 40 lbs.

Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Ability and willingness to work periodic odd hours and some holidays in animal/laboratory/class preparation.

*Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.

Advanced in Animal handling - capable of handling and embalming large and small animals

Proficient in Computer application knowledge - knowledge of applicable computer applications

Advanced in Ethical practices and behavior - ability to adhere to and promote ethical business practices

Advanced in Medical resources - knowledge of available medical resources and terminology

Advanced in Teaching instruction - ability to provide teaching instruction and relate to clinical conditions

Advanced in Technical skills - ability to utilize technical skills

Advanced in Laboratory safety - ability to work with Biosafety Level II biohazards, incl. infectious diseases

Advanced in Personal interaction - ability to interact with others (verbal and written)

Advanced in Attention to detail - ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment

Advanced in Prioritize and multi-task - ability to prioritize, organize, and perform simultaneously
