Chemistry Faculty-Tenure Track

Augusta University’s Department of Chemistry and Physics invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in any sub-discipline of chemistry with NMR expertise. Appointment to begin in the fall of 2020, rank commensurate with experience. The department offers an ACS-approved BS program, a BA in chemistry, and will begin an MS in Biomolecular Sciences with a concentration in Medicinal Chemistry in Fall 2020. The successful candidate will contribute to the undergraduate and graduate programs by teaching lecture and/or laboratory courses based upon expertise, program needs, and interest. Applicants must have a demonstrated ability for success in research and the potential to establish a nationally recognized and funded research program. The position requires a PhD in chemistry or a closely-related field; postdoctoral experience is preferred.

The successful candidate will serve as Scientific Director of the Chemical and Biomolecular Analysis Facility, which is housed in the department, and will work closely with the facility director to design and execute multinuclear or multidimensional NMR experiments on both small molecules and biomolecules, as well as implement new pulse sequences. The Chemical and Biomolecular Analysis Facility includes a 500 MHz NMR (Triple Resonance CryoProbe, HR-MAS and BBP), 300 MHz NMR (QNP), LC MS, HPLC, Jasco dichrometer, ICP-OES, spectrofluorimeter, differential thermal analysis, and XRD instruments.

Augusta University is one of four research universities in the University System of Georgia and the state’s only public academic medical center, offering 160 degree programs from bachelor’s to doctoral. Augusta, Georgia is the cultural center of the Central Savannah River Area, host of the Masters Golf Tournament, and home of the new $100 million Georgia Cyber Center. In 2021, the College will occupy a new building currently under construction on the Health Sciences Campus in close proximity to the Medical College of Georgia, Dental College of Georgia, and Georgia Cancer Center. The university is near Fort Gordon, home of the U.S. Army’s Signal Corps, Cyber Center of Excellence, Cyber Command, and NSA-Georgia. The Department of Energy’s Savannah River National Laboratory is a half-hour drive from the university. Applications from candidates who might establish research collaboration with any of these organizations are particularly encouraged.

Candidates should submit a letter of interest, CV, graduate transcripts, statement of teaching philosophy highlighting high-impact teaching practices, description of research plans, and a list of three references to the department. All documents should be sent as a single PDF file to Jean Grover (jgrover@augusta.edu or 1120 15th St., SCI W3005, Augusta, GA 30912) and complete the electronic application form at www.augusta.edu/hr/jobs/faculty (Job ID 213463, Position 00010285). Questions may be directed to the search committee chair, Dr. Angela Spencer (anspencer@augusta.edu). Review of applications will begin Nov. 15, 2019. The position will remain open until filled.
