Environment:

The Biomedical Imaging Center at Pennington Biomedical Research Center is home to two 3T GE MRI machines, including a wide-bore Discovery 750w installed in 2013 and a Signa Excite HDxT.  Current strength areas include brain MRI, MR spectroscopy, and body composition assessments.  Beyond MRI, the Biomedical Imaging Center also includes two DEXA scanners, ultrasound equipment, a BODPOD, and an x-ray machine for multi-modality studies. The fellow will have access to this equipment as well as a large-scale, extensible cluster computing machine and desktop computing equipment.  The fellow will also have access to PET scanners through a collaborative arrangement with the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.  These imaging resources support a Pennington research portfolio focused on obesity, diabetes, exercise, nutrition, aging, and Alzheimer’s disease.  The center includes approximately 60 faculty, 100 adjunct faculty and 30 postdoctoral researchers.  In 2012, Pennington was ranked one of the top ten places in the US to work as a postdoc, with two postdoctoral T32 training grants, two P30 center grants, and the LaCats infrastructure grant.  These resources provide numerous career development activities and a variety of scientific education programs for postdocs.  Pennington is a member of the Louisiana State University system situated in the lovely, thriving, and family-friendly city of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
