The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, available in 2020/2021 academic year.  The 12-month position is supported by a competitive salary and benefit package, fully funded by the institution.  Applicants must have earned a PhD or equivalent degree with at least two years of postdoctoral experience and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching of future healthcare professionals. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

This position is part of a College of Graduate Studies initiative in a Precision Medicine graduate program.  We are seeking outstanding individuals dedicated to effective teaching and research to prepare graduates to be leaders in the rapidly evolving fields that impact the ability of medical professionals to provide precision medical care to patients. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in performing and analyzing genomic studies (metagenomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, pharmacogenomics, whole-genome sequencing, etc), proteomics, metabolomics, biomarker discovery, or microbiome studies to address significant biological problems, but candidates with research strengths in any other areas of biochemistry will also be considered.  The successful candidate will also participate in some team-taught courses for health science students in biochemistry and related topics that may include cell biology, human genetics, metabolism, molecular biology and nutrition.  This position involves a significant amount of teaching with highly motivated students, but also offers the opportunity to develop a strong research program or to engage in other scholarly activities.

The successful candidate will also be expected to develop and maintain an independent research program with the potential for attracting extramural funding.  Midwestern University has an active research community with diverse interests that provide ample opportunity for collaborative research.  A start-up package, office and research space, core facilities, and technical support will be provided.

Qualified and interested applicants should apply online. The following application materials must be submitted in PDF format:
1. Cover letter of application
2. Curriculum vitae
3. Statement of teaching philosophy
4. Statement of research interests describing future research plans
5. Contact information for three references

The search committee will begin the review of applications on September 30, 2019 and will continue until the position is filled. Additional inquiries may be directed to Jose Hernandez, Ph.D., Chair, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at jherna@midwestern.edu.
