A postdoctoral position is open in the laboratory of Dr. William G. Dunphy at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).  The research involves the mechanisms by which eukaryotic cells ensure that their genomes remain intact during the course of cellular duplication.  Failures in such mechanisms can lead to cancer and other diseases.  To unravel these mechanisms, we study how cells initiate DNA replication at the right time and place during the cell cycle.  We also investigate what happens when problems occur during replication or the DNA becomes damaged during the process.  We largely focus on proteins called TopBP1 and Treslin, which are crucial for both DNA replication and checkpoint responses to replication stress. For these studies, we use both Xenopus egg extracts and human tissue culture cells as model systems.  For this position, the postdoctoral fellow will focus principally on the mechanisms by which Treslin regulates how, where, and when the initiation of DNA replication occurs throughout the human genome.  Applicants should have experience in cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology.  Experience in genomics and bioinformatics would be desirable.  For additional information, please visit  For a complete list of publications, see
