Interdisciplinary Computer Science
The Evergreen State College seeks broadly trained regular faculty* members eager to develop innovative Computer Science curriculum at an experimental liberal arts college. We are particularly interested in candidates who are enthusiastic to explore the unique possibilities that computer science and computational approaches offer toward problem solving and critical thinking in an interdisciplinary, team-taught curriculum. The position includes expectations to regularly develop and deliver curriculum in collaboration with other computer scientists and with colleagues in other disciplines; recent examples include the arts, humanities, social sciences, the biological and physical sciences, linguistics, and cognitive science. Recent grants to our Computer Science program will also provide faculty with opportunities to support student-initiated projects, internships, undergraduate research, and other creative approaches to computer science teaching and learning.
We are interested in candidates who have experience or interest in using innovative pedagogy to engage students in developing their conceptual understanding of computation. We strongly encourage applicants who have had experience teaching and/or working with students from underserved populations, or whose teaching and/or research addresses connections between computer science and social justice. We are eager to increase our capacity to create inclusive classrooms that support diverse learners in computational thinking and computer science.
