DESCRIPTION
The Hematology/Oncology Division in the Department of Medicine in the School of Medicine, University of California, Irvine, is recruiting for a full-time Postdoctoral Scholars to support research projects in the laboratory of Dr. Nick Pannunzio. This Postdoctoral Scholar position is available immediately.
The Pannunzio lab focuses on the etiology of B cell malignancies with a particular focus on genome rearrangements resulting from DNA damage.
Primary Responsibilities:
Manage and maintain an independent research project, data analysis, experimental design, literature reviews, manuscript preparation, and assisting with grant applications.
The Postdoctoral Scholar will also be encouraged to attend and present the results of their research at scientific conferences, participate in study meetings and interact with collaborative research groups; mentor and work with graduate and undergraduate students; develop and pursue their own research ideas; as well as develop and polish any skills and experiences that they feel will best prepare them for their career goals.
Qualifications:
We are seeking motivated applicants who have an M.D., Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree(s) and extensive training and interdisciplinary skills and approaches in areas of discipline related to cancer genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field. Experience in DNA damage, DNA double-strand break repair, and DNA structure would be advantageous. Research independence and ability to write and fund independent research projects are highly desirable. Laboratory experience is required.
Strong experience and interest in one or more of the following areas is preferred, but not required:
Mammalian cell culture: Culturing of human or mouse B cells and preparation of primary B cells from whole blood.
Genomics: Preparation of genomic DNA from mammalian cells for construction of libraries for whole genome sequencing, ChIP-Seq, or RNA-Seq experiments.
CRISPR/Cas9: Design and transfection of CRISPR/Cas9 components for induction of DNA double-strand breaks.
