Faculty Position in the Duchossois Family Institute

The University of Chicago: Biological Sciences Division

Description

The University of Chicago’s Duchossois Family Institute (DFI) in the Biological Sciences Division seeks clinical and/or laboratory-based investigators focusing on microbiome- and immune-mediated resistance to acute and chronic diseases for appointment as assistant or associate professor.  Rank, track, and tenure status will be contingent on qualifications. Appointment will be in an appropriate unit of the University depending on the candidate’s research interests.  The newly established DFI (https://dfi.uchicago.edu) is supported by a $100 million dollar gift and is bringing together scientists and clinicians in the areas of immunology, genetics and microbiome investigation to harness the body’s natural defenses. Research topics of interest include commensal microbes, complex microbial populations, microbial pathogenesis, bacterial genomics, and infectious or inflammatory diseases.

The University is a vibrant center of scientific discovery and innovation, and opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration abound. The Biological Sciences Division, Physical Sciences Division, the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering and the University of Chicago Medical Center, are all contained within one compact campus in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood. Appointees will have access to state-of-the-art core facilities and to outstanding colleagues and graduate students affiliated with numerous degree-granting programs within the biological and physical sciences. Competitive research space and start-up funding will be available, as will the potential for interactions with our affiliates, Argonne National Laboratory and the Marine Biological Laboratory.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree or equivalent and have completed postdoctoral training by the start of the appointment. To be considered, those interested must apply through The University of Chicago’s Academic Recruitment job board, which uses Interfolio to accept applications: http://apply.interfolio.com/68013.   Applicants must upload a CV including bibliography and a two- to three-page research statement outlining short- and longer-term academic goals.  Review of complete applications will begin October 10, 2019 and continue until the position is filled.

For additional information on the position or nominations contact Dr. Eric Pamer, DFI Director (egpamer@medicine.bsd.uchicago.edu).
