The Department of Emergency Medicine and the interdepartmental Center for Immunity and Inflammation (CII) at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences New Jersey Medical School, located in Newark, NJ, invites applications for full time, tenure-track appointments at the Associate or Assistant Professor level. We are jointly recruiting candidates with interest in translational research at the crossroads of inflammation and the effects of drugs and toxins on human organ systems, such as the central nervous system, liver, and heart. While there is a particular interest in opioids, pain medication, and drugs of abuse, other areas of interest can be accommodated. The position will support both basic and clinical researchers and is accompanied by a highly competitive start-up package with exceptional candidates being considered for further support as Chancellor Scholars.

Candidate Requirements: Applicants must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree, post-doctoral experience, excellent communication skills and a record of productivity in toxicology, pharmacology, or inflammation, particularly as related to opioid effects on inflammation. Candidates at the Assistant Professor level should have a substantial trajectory toward developing a rigorous, externally-funded research program. Candidates at the Associate Professor level should have a national scientific reputation, current research funding and a history of mentorship and leadership.

The Department of Emergency Medicine: The Department hosts both academic and clinical efforts. The Emergency Department at University Hospital care for more than 90,000 patients annually and is the site of our clinical research and quality improvement programs. Our research and scholarship efforts in the academic core are focused on medical toxicology (human poisoning) particularly opioids and substances of abuse, as well as chemical weapons and disaster preparedness. We are home to the NJ Poison Information and Education System and have several researchers at various levels of accomplishment as faculty members. Our integration within the NJMS and Rutgers University offers vast opportunities for collaboration on transitional research project.

The Center for Immunity and Inflammation: The Center is an integral part of the newly established Institute for Infectious and Inflammatory Diseases (i3D) at RBHS. Research in Infection and Inflammation has been selected for strategic development at RBHS with a vision of transforming this already strong program into a center of excellence and international reputation. With the creation of RBHS in July 2013 Rutgers University has become one of the most comprehensive university-based centers for improving human health and health care. We seek candidates to join CII at a pivotal time of growth in research excellence. Core resources include flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, state-of-the-art proteomics and genomics centers, and newly renovated animal facilities.

Application Process: Applicants should submit a: (1) cover letter, (2) summary of present and future research plans, (3) curriculum vitae, and (4) names/email addresses of three references. Only applications on this website are accepted, but if any difficultly arises contact Jennifer.yaney@njms.rutgers.edu or rr859@njms.rutgers.edu.
