NIH-funded Postdoctoral Position

in Cardiovascular Aging and Ion Channel Physiology

A NIH-funded post-doctoral position in cardiovascular ion channel physiology and aging research is available in the Dixon Lab, Department of Physiology and Membrane Biology at UC Davis. We are recruiting a highly motivated, creative, and collaborative scientist to join our research group.

Our lab studies how cardiac ion channel function and trafficking is altered in the aged myocardium, with a particular emphasis on L-type calcium channels and their regulation by G-protein coupled receptor signaling pathways. To study the function and dynamic distribution of ion channels, we use patch clamp electrophysiology, and multiple advanced imaging modalities including TIRF, confocal and state-of-the-art super-resolution technologies. In parallel studies, we use molecular biology and biochemical approaches including cloning, cell culture, Western blot, protein purification, and mass spectrometry.

Successful candidates will enjoy a supportive, diverse, and stimulating laboratory environment with cutting-edge instrumentation and facilities, and a strong culture of training and mentorship.

Applicants must have a PhD, or MD degree and should have a demonstrated background in cardiovascular physiology and/or cell biology and protein trafficking. Previous experience in at least one of the following is essential: enzymatic isolation of primary ventricular myocytes, cell biology and ion channel/protein trafficking, patch clamp electrophysiology, calcium imaging, and fluorescence microscopy. The applicant should have a strong publication record, be able to independently design and conduct experiments, be an effective communicator and problem-solver willing to work within a collaborative team.

TO APPLY: Interested candidates should send their CV/biosketch, a cover letter expressing their interest in the position, and the name and email of three qualified references to the PI, Dr. Rose Dixon, via email redickson@ucdavis.edu.
