ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN MICROBIAL ECOLOGY AND

EVOLUTION OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES

The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Michigan State University is recruiting an Assistant or Associate Professor specializing in Microbial Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Diseases, with a PhD in microbiology, molecular genetics, biological chemistry, or a related field. This is an academic year (9‐month) tenure track position. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience.

Research responsibilities (60%): The successful candidate will establish an independent, innovative, externally‐funded research program in the area of microbial ecology and evolution of infectious diseases. Areas of emphasis relevant include antimicrobial resistance, computational biology, and genomics (https://research.msu.edu/global-impact/global-priority-areas). Candidates who use approaches synergistic with the discipline of microbiology (e.g., chemical biology, mathematical modeling, systems biology) are encouraged to apply. Teaching Responsibilities (30%): The successful candidate will participate in instruction of undergraduate, graduate, or professional students and will mentor graduate students. Service Responsibilities (10%): The successful candidate will contribute to department, college, university and professional activities in ways that demonstrate a clear commitment to students, departmental and campus programs, and the professional community at large.

Qualifications: PhD in microbiology, molecular genetics, biochemistry, or a closely related field, and a strong record of publication. Postdoctoral experience required.
