The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an energetic, well-funded research program; teach neuroscience in the veterinary professional programs; and engage in multidisciplinary and collaborative research. We are especially interested in candidates with experience and expertise in neuroanatomy.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in neuroscience or closely related field and relevant post-doctoral experience. Preference will be given to individuals who also hold a D.V.M. (or equivalent).  We seek a neuroscientist who will be willing and able to interact with veterinary clinical neuroscientists in teaching and research and who will educate, train, and mentor professional and graduate students. We are especially interested in candidates whose research will complement one of the Department’s strategic research focus areas (neurotrauma and degenerative neurologic disease; cancer; musculoskeletal biology and orthopedics) and who will actively engage in Purdue’s Institute of Integrative Neuroscience (https://www.purdue.edu/discoverypark/institute-for-integrative-neuroscience/).

Purdue University offers a thriving interdisciplinary environment for education and research. Collaborative and interdisciplinary research are enabled through the NCI-funded Purdue University Center for Cancer Research (https://www.cancerresearch.purdue.edu/), and facilities and centers within Discovery Park (http://www.purdue.edu/discoverypark/). Purdue University’s recently established Pillars of Excellence in the Life Sciences provide additional opportunities, particularly in neuroscience and inflammation, immunology and infectious disease (http://www.purdue.edu/research/life-sciences/).

Purdue University’s Department of Basic Medical Sciences is committed to advancing diversity in all areas of faculty effort, including scholarship, instruction, and engagement. Candidates should address in a cover letter their experiences, current interests or activities, and/or future goals to promote a climate that values diversity and inclusion in at least one of those areas of faculty effort.  Application materials should also include a complete CV; a 2-3 page description of current and future research and professional goals, which includes a description of professional contributions to the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and the names and contact information for three references.

Review of applications will begin September 25, 2019 and continue until the position is filled. The start date for the position is negotiable. A background check is required for employment in this position. Requests for more information should be sent to Dr. Riyi Shi, riyi@purdue.edu), College of Veterinary Medicine, Purdue University, 625 Harrison Street, West Lafayette, IN 47907-2026.
