Job Details

The Department of Biological Sciences at Florida International University (https://biology.fiu.edu) is seeking qualified candidates for an Open Rank, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor position in Phycology. We are interested in scientists who use contemporary tools for understanding algae taxonomy, physiology and/or ecology, and who have prior experience applying this knowledge to detecting, modeling, and/or managing harmful microalgal blooms. Only candidates having significant transferable funding at the time of hiring will be considered for this position. The successful candidate is expected to benefit from, and broaden the ongoing network of collaborations among, an existing team of scientists addressing the chemistry of harmful algal blooms, and ecologists studying freshwater and coastal ecosystem dynamics, which are supported by core facilities including molecular biology, toxicology and nutrient analysis, among others. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain an externally funded research program, supervise graduate students in our Ph.D. program, as well as teach undergraduate courses in their area of expertise, which might include microbiology, phycology, and/or freshwater or coastal ecology.
