Assistant Professor - Tenure Track

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

Cambridge, MA

The Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard, together with Department of Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, Massachusetts), is conducting a search for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level, effective July 1, 2020, or as soon thereafter as possible. Under special circumstances, a senior faculty appointment with tenure is possible.

Applicants are expected to develop and lead a vibrant independent research program, as well as share our commitment to undergraduate and graduate education by teaching courses and supervising graduate and undergraduate research. We are particularly interested in candidates who will help promote and provide diversity.

The Ragon Institute has its own recently renovated building located near the heart of MIT. The Ragon Institute was officially established in February 2009 as a joint institute involving faculty from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), MIT, and Harvard University.

Applicants must have a PhD, MD or equivalent and a track record of exceptional achievement in basic or translational research and the potential to develop an outstanding independent research program that supports the Institute’s ultimate goal of harnessing the immune system to prevent and cure human diseases. In particular, we are looking for innovative scientists with expertise and interest in infectious diseases, immunology, and/or the human microbiome. We seek creative individuals who bring complementary approaches from other disciplines, including engineering, physical sciences and computational and structural biology, which can synergize with ongoing basic and translational research efforts at the Ragon Institute and in the Department of Biology.

The successful candidate will be provided with a generous start-up package to complement outstanding laboratory and office space, as well as access to state-of-the-art core facilities including advanced flow cytometry, microscopy, BSL-3 facilities and an extensive clinical specimen repository.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, 3-4 page summary of current and proposed research, statement of teaching interests, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted on their behalf.

To apply, submit application materials to:  https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/14306.

Completed applications will be reviewed starting October 1, 2019.

See Employment Opportunities for additional MIT Biology faculty positions. Candidates may apply for multiple searches, and must submit a separate application for each opening.

MIT and the Ragon Institute are equal employment opportunity employers. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, skin color, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, ancestry, or national or ethnic origin.
