POSITION AND APPOINTMENT
Two faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor, in the Department of Physiology and the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, School of Medicine, SIU Carbondale. The positions include a 100 percent time, tenure track, 12-month state-funded salary, spacious research facilities, and competitive start-up funds.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND POSITION
Research: Conduct research in the biomedical sciences or biochemistry, prepare and submit grant proposals, prepare and publish papers, attend scientific meetings and present talks and posters; guide the research programs of graduate students; and supervise other laboratory personnel.
Teaching: Prepare and deliver lectures and/or laboratory experiments in courses taught by the department in the undergraduate (Physiology department only) and graduate curriculums and participate in the medical school curriculum as a facilitator and/or resource faculty. Serve on graduate thesis and dissertation committees.
Service: The faculty member is expected to become engaged in service activities beneficial to the department, university, and the scientific community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Physiology, Biochemistry or related field. Postdoctoral experience and evidence of high quality research is required. The specific area of research of the candidate should be competitive for extramural funding and preferably complement existing departmental strengths in physiology (cancer biology, endocrinology, neuroscience, and reproduction) or biochemistry (gene regulation, RNA biology and genome integrity).
This is a security sensitive position. Before any offer of employment is made, the university will conduct a pre-employment background investigation, which includes a criminal background check.
SALARY
Salary will be commensurate with education, experience and established School of Medicine guidelines.
