Assistant Professor/Director of Clinical Research 

This position is responsible for the coordination and administration of the operational affairs of the Orthopaedic Research Division in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Oversight responsibilities include monitoring administrative activities within the Research Division including: human resources, information systems, planning, compliance, training, special projects, and resource management.  Provides analysis and reporting, both internal and external, and advises the Departmental Research Steering Committee on ways to optimize operations and services. May also submit research grant proposals

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provides overall leadership for the department’s administrative/operations function.
  • Participates in the development of operational reports and provides advice to the Orthopaedic Academic Council on related systematic and non-systematic issues.
  • Coordinates planning activities in areas related to research.
  • Works with the Department Chairman and Vice Chair of Clinical Research to coordinate optimal utilization of the Orthopaedic Research Division resources in support of the research mission.
  • Responsible for the implementation and oversight of appropriate administrative structures, systems, and activities necessary for the leadership and direction to facilitate delivery of quality research support programs.
  • Manages Human Resources activities for the Office of Research in regards to personnel records, performance evaluations and salary planning.
  • Serves as a resource to faculty and staff regarding research policies and procedures and training requirements.
  • Coordinates and develops Annual Reports and other reports as requested by internal and external constituents.
  • Coordinates planning, implementation and evaluation of ongoing special programs and activities in the Orthopaedic Research Division.
  • Serves on research-related Health Science Center, local and regional committees representing the Departmental research perspective, as appropriate.  Serves and liaison for the Department with other research units and UT departments, such as Office of Sponsored Programs, Legal Affairs, and Institutional Compliance.
  • Provides support and assistance to various committees within the Orthopaedic Research Division by providing research and information regarding policies, procedures, and data gathering /analysis.
