Seeking research oriented individual to assist in developing successful grant applications as Principle Investigator (PI), Co-Investigator, or Multi-PI to support microbial research of the USF Genomics Program; apply and support application of computational methods in microbial genomics to interdisciplinary research programs in the USF Genomics Program.  The successful candidate will interface with researchers from across the USF System to support research of the USF Genomics Program; mentor students and post docs in integrating computational biology methods into their ongoing research projects; and will serve on graduate student advisory committees for students matriculating in degree programs of faculty in the USF Genomic Program.

The USF Genomics Program is a new multi-college program that operates through the College of Public Health’s global health strategic area. It includes faculty from the COPH, Morsani College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Arts and Sciences and College of Marine Science. USF Genomics research projects are naturally interdisciplinary with studies that cross many boundaries of traditional scientific fields, integrating bioscience approaches in experimental and environmental research with computation biology.

Minimum Qualifications:  PhD, MD, MD/PhD terminal degree from an accredited institution in computational biology or related discipline; at least two years relevant research experience; and strong track record of peer-reviewed publications

Preferred Qualifications:  Research experience applying computational methods to complex biological questions and performing analysis in microbial genomics research; interdisciplinary research in one or more areas of microbial genomics research (16S ribosomal DNA/RNA sequencing, metagenomics, phylogenetic inference, functional prediction and annotation of microbial gene function, and the role of the microbiome in causing and combating human disease); experience with a wide range of taxonomic breadth; background training in the omics of viruses, Archaea, Eubacteria, and fungi; two years postdoc research experience; experience supporting extramurally-funded or peer-reviewed research program(s).
