Veterinary Clinical Microbiology
The Department of Pathobiology, University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for an Assistant Professor (clinician educator track) faculty position in veterinary clinical microbiology. Applicants should have a DVM/VMD or equivalent degree and be board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists. We seek applicants with demonstrated interest and expertise in the multiple subfields of veterinary clinical microbiology. The successful candidate will have responsibility, under the laboratory chief of service, in the clinical microbiology diagnostic laboratory at the Matthew J Ryan Veterinary Hospital on the Philadelphia campus [http://www.vet.upenn.edu/veterinary-hospitals/ryan-veterinary-hospital/services/diagnostic-laboratories]. The Penn Vet Diagnostic Laboratories team includes microbiologists, parasitologists, and board-certified anatomic and clinical pathologists, along with residents in training. Upon joining our team, the successful candidate will provide supervision and oversight to the microbiology laboratory; collaborate with other diagnosticians and engage in client consultation with submitting veterinarians. Experience leading, or participating in antimicrobial stewardship and infectious disease committees is desirable.
Teaching responsibilities include teaching in the veterinary core microbiology and immunology curriculum; clinical rounds with senior rotation students and house officers; participation in a new residency program; the development of elective courses at the professional and graduate level; supervising, training and mentoring students. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to novel approaches to teaching and training veterinary students and veterinarians in the fields of microbiology and infectious disease. They will contribute to an ongoing curriculum redesign effort, the development of interdisciplinary courses at the undergraduate and graduate level and the development of interprofessional electives with a One Health focus. Candidates for the clinician educator faculty track position will also be expected to participate in scholarly activity in their demonstrated area of interest.
