Tenure-track/tenured faculty position

The Sue & Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center (SCRC) in the Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences (CoHS) and the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering (HSSoE) at the University of California Irvine invite applications from outstanding candidates for tenure-track/tenured faculty positions focused broadly on Tissue Engineering and Stem Cells. Faculty appointments will reside in HSSoE (in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering) or CoHS School of Medicine (SOM; in Physiology & Biophysics, Anatomy & Neurobiology, or another SOM department as appropriate).

The position will create a synergistic, interdepartmental concentration in stem cell-based tissue engineering that utilizes multidisciplinary approaches. These approaches may include, but are not limited to, organs on a chip, 3D bioprinting, tissue specific organoids, neurotherapeutics, cancer stem cells, cell engineering, gene therapy and genome editing, and immunomodulatory materials. Ideal candidates will be collaborative and multidisciplinary in their research approach within one or more of the following domains: 1) Novel strategies to control and direct stem cell differentiation in 3D microenvironments; 2) Functionalization/synthesis of novel scaffold materials for support of stem cell niches; 3) Applications of tissue engineering and high‐throughput screening of therapeutic compounds to human stem cells or organoids.

Academic appointment will be made at the Assistant/Associate Professor level as full-time Academic Senate appointment. Positions are open to PhD, MD, or MD/PhD scientists. Successful candidates will be expected to establish a robust extramurally funded independent research program. Candidates will also be expected to contribute as members of UCI’s SCRC and fulfill departmental objectives that include teaching in their discipline, and support the service missions of the institution. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience, and generous start-up packages will be provided.

Interested individuals should apply online through UCI RECRUIT at https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF05217.  Application materials required: 1) Cover letter; 2) Curriculum vitae; 3) Summary of research interests (up to 3 pages); 4) Summary of teaching philosophy (1 page); 5) Statement of Contributions to Diversity, equity & inclusion (2 pages); 6) Names and contact information for 3-5 individuals who can provide a letter of reference upon request; 7) PDFs of 3-5 recent publications.

Applications must be submitted by 11PM on September 16th 2019.

Inquiries about the position should be directed to Brian Cummings (SCRC co-Chair; cummings@uci.edu), 2026 Gross Hall, University of California, Irvine, CA, 92697-1705, or Albert Yee (HSSoE co-Chair; afyee@uci.edu), 644C Engineering Tower, University of California, Irvine, CA, 92697-2575.
