The University of Chicago: Biological Sciences Division: Department of Surgery
Description
The University of Chicago's Department of Surgery in the Biological Sciences Division is searching for tenured or tenure-track faculty members at any rank. We seek applications from basic scientists who study the role of the microbiome in health and human disease, especially surgical and related disorders. We welcome applicants who would carry out the the full breadth of microbiome research including sequencing, metabolomics and complex data analysis; develop their own independent research program; and develop close, interdisciplinary collaborations with scientists within the Microbiome Center (https://microbiome.uchicago.edu/), the Duchossois Family Institute (https://dfi.uchicago.edu/) the Department of Ecology & Evolution (https://pondside.uchicago.edu/ee/), the DIgestive Disease Research Core Center at the University of Chicago (http://www.uchicagoddrcc.org/) as well as Argonne National Laboratories (https://www.anl.gov/).
The Department has a long-standing program in the molecular pathogenesis of surgery-related infections as it relates to surgical disease, surgery and postoperative complications, which has included microbial, cellular, small animal (C. elegans, G. mellonela) and mouse-based research. Appointment would be in this and/or another appropriate department.
Applicants must have a doctoral degree or equivalent and postdoctoral experience.
