The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at the University of Delaware (UD) invites nominations and applications for a department chair. We seek a visionary senior scholar with a vigorous research program who can provide strong, dynamic, and innovative leadership to advance excellence in research and engineering education. Candidates must have an earned doctorate and be qualified for appointment at the full professor level. A proven record of externally funded research, commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, dedication to expand a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, and effective management and interpersonal skills are required.

Launched in 2010, BME at UD is ABET accredited and ranked in the top third of BME departments nationally. We have established world class research programs in Applied Biomaterials and Multi-scale Biomechanics and have plans to continue our ambitious growth over the next decade. This year the BME research labs will be expanding into new buildings on the 272-acre STAR (Science, Technology, and Advanced Research) campus, a hub of health and innovation at UD. Biomedical research at UD is supported by state-of-the-art core facilities enabling biomedical analysis across multiple length scales, including: the Center for Biomedical and Brain Imaging; the UD Nanofabrication Facility; the Delaware Biotechnology Institute; and labs for human-based studies and active outpatient clinics in the College of Health Sciences and Delaware Rehabilitation Institute. BME at UD enjoys close relationships with the nearby Delaware Technology Park, where entrepreneurial and research incubators are co-located with academic research labs; and with Christiana Care Health System, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, and Thomas Jefferson University, which provide outstanding infrastructure and opportunities for innovative clinical and translational collaborations.
