PhD student in Molecular Mechanisms of Tumorigenesis
Single cell technology for cancer biologyErasmus MC stands for a healthy population and excellence in healthcare. By conducting groundbreaking work, we aim to push boundaries through leading the way in research, education and healthcare. We have access to the latest equipment and techniques in a state-of-the-art environment.
In Dr. Chien's lab at Erasmus University Medical Center (Erasmus MC) in Rotterdam, we develop single cell technologies combining optical, biomedical and bioinformatics methods to address biological questions, particularly in cancer biology. The Chien Lab is looking for a self-motivated PhD student with a strong interest in working in a multidisciplinary lab. The candidate will apply the technologies developed in Dr. Chien's group, including advanced imaging and single cell sequencing analysis, to patient-derived primary cultures to investigate molecular mechanisms of tumorigenesis. The candidate will also develop 2D and 3D organoid primary cultures and apply genetic engineering methods (i.e., CRISPR-Cas9) to study the effect of target genes in cancer development.
The successful candidate preferentially has a background in Cancer Biology, Biotechnology, Systems Biology and/or Bioinformatics. The candidate will interact with a diverse group of faculty in optics, bioengineering, biomedical and cell biology, and will be able to collaborate with leading laboratories at Erasmus MC, The CancerGenomiCs.nl consortium , The Oncode Institute and Delft University of Technology. The successful candidate has a BSc or MSc in a relevant discipline (such as Biomedical Research, Biotechnology, System Biology, Bioinformatics) with a record that reflects individual accomplishment. A strong command of scientific English in speech and writing is essential. Experience in Bioinformatics is a plus!
