Emergent Infectious Agents at the Interface of Food & the Environment tenure-track Asst/Assoc Prof.

Job Requirements

University of Minnesota is seeking applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences within the Global Food Ventures initiative.  We are particularly interested in candidates who will establish a vigorous and innovative research program studying fundamental biological processes in any experimental system. We also expect the successful candidate to participate in teaching advanced courses for graduate and veterinary medicine students and to interface with the food animal industry and citizens.

We view Global Food Ventures in the broadest sense, encompassing Microbes to Fish to Poultry to Mammals and employing a variety of approaches from biological and molecular tools to computational biology and systems biology. Current faculty in the department use a diverse range of approaches to study many different organisms, including microbes, mosquitos, poultry, swine, companion animals, mice and humans. For more information about our department see: vbs.umn.edu

About the Position: The world’s population is expected to grow to more than 9 billion people during the next 40 years, requiring a 70 percent increase in food supply.  Innovations to produce safe and nutritious food go hand-in-hand with research to understand pathogen biology and host response to current and emerging infectious diseases, and with educating students and citizens of Minnesota to help do their part to address global food issues.

The competitive applicants for the tenure-track position have distinguished themselves as a creative and promising investigator capable of sustaining a research program of true distinction.  They have first-rate communication abilities and experience positioning them for a first-rate performance in teaching.

All candidates must be eligible to apply for research grants from U.S. Federal funding agencies. Members of underrepresented minorities and women are strongly encouraged to apply.
