SUMMARY

The Medical Imaging Technologist (MIT) provides highly skilled technical support, performance and supervision of image post processing procedures for clinical visualization and 3D printing of diagnostic and interventional studies. Collects and transfers modality specific data for performance of high quality image post processed procedures utilizing state-of-the-art equipment/technology. Manages the transfer of all image data to and from the 3D lab workstations in an accurate and timely manner. Will be knowledgeable of the 3D printing process, the software and file formatting, the materials involved and their use. Knowledgeable in image manipulation and CAD (computer aided-design). Will provide routine QA/QC of printing devices and printed parts. Will do routine maintenance of the 3D printer as per required. Records and maintains workload activity. Provides communication and services to DI and MDACC faculty to meet the specific needs of the patients' or other stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  4. Provide daily high quality image post-processing services for MDACC. This includes gathering the requests of cases to be printed (via e-mail, telephone and pager or other automated method), perform segmentation, CAD, 3D printing of parts, post processing of parts, delivering the parts, working with EPIC, maintaining records of daily activities and ensuring the cases and reports are in compliance with proprietary MDACC systems.
  5. Perform quality control checks' as developed for the 3D printing lab per medical director and co-director of the lab. When required, work with the PACS personnel, software and printer companies, to ensure optimal workflow from requested model to delivery. Reload data and follows protocols to measure volume, etc. of target organs. Verify that cases are processed appropriately and communicate the status to faculty members when necessary.
  6. Remains current on advances in technology and procedures through participation in formal training programs and required in-services (internal and external training). Performs special projects and/or duties relating to protocol development, new protocol initiatives, new techniques, new software and printers, and/or professional development. Collaborates on patient care and research projects with all institutional staff.
  7. Assists and adheres to specific requests for technical imaging, processes and other media for medical papers or publications, projects and medical conferences as requested by DI Faculty.
  8. Monitors equipment in accordance with safety standards. Ensures that software is updated and calibrated to standards. During equipment malfunction, initiates proper and timely trouble-shooting procedures to maintain the continuity of work flow and image processing, contacting relevant vendors when needed to prevent downtime and delay in workflow to faculty requests. Reports all equipment malfunctions to the program director and DI Engineering Team providing all details of error, i.e., site ID information and obtaining and logging reference numbers.
  9. Perform image processing operations using DICOM images and using various software platforms to produce the following but not limiting to 3D/VR, CAD, MPR, MIP and MiniIP.
  10. Creates and modifies workflows in the 3D printing process to enhance 3D printed quality and output.
  11. Is knowledgeable in image segmentation of the whole body. Is confident on the use of CAD software and it integration with segmentation of DICOM images.
  12. Responsible for procurement, storage, and routing of relevant clinical or research supplies and data, and for preparation of assigned areas and relevant equipment.
  13. Responsible for the upkeep of the 3D printers, materials, and lab in general.
  14. Other duties as assigned.


Required Education: Bachelors of Science in related field.

Required Education:Three years with printing lab/Computer-aided design (CAD) and extensive knowledge of software used.

Preferred:Three years of relevant experience gained at MDACC.
