Job Details
The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Laboratory Bench Work
Must have measurable experience in molecular and cellular biology techniques, be able to accurately pipet, follow protocols and perform accurate calculations as needed for the conduct of the work. Exercises considerable initiative and inventiveness in planning and executing the details of experiments/studies and in evaluating and interpreting the results. Perform laboratory studies using complex techniques including flow cytometry, tissue culture (maintaining mammalian cells, growth assays, drug response assays, transfection and viral infection), nucleic acid extraction, PCR including mouse genotyping, immunoblotting, immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry.
Animal Studies
Perform animal studies including mouse colony handling, monitoring and recording progress of experiments, injecting tumor cells, mouse surgeries, dosing mice with drugs, animal imaging, necropsy, preparation of tissue samples for histological processing. Animals include "nude" and conventional mice.
Records and Lab Maintenance
Must maintain accurate, detailed records and experimental data and protocols. Responsible for major participation in the development and revision of techniques, assembles and operates laboratory apparatus and equipment. Performs common lab routine maintenance as needed. Organizes supplies. Assists with the regular monitoring of safety standards in the laboratory, including maintenance and handling of hazardous materials and biohazard waste.
Reports and Grants
Collects and organizes data and information to assist supervisor and senior research staff with preparation of reports and grant requests.
Depending on interest and lab needs, any combination of the above techniques and duties may apply.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Required:Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.
Preferred : Master's degree in one of the biological or natural sciences.
Experience: Two years of experience in scientific or experimental research work.
Preferred: Experience with molecular and cellular biology techniques.
