ANIMAL PHYSIOLOGY TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
Department of Biology, Swarthmore College

The Department of Biology invites applications for a tenure-track position in animal physiology at the Assistant Professor level, beginning Fall 2020. Applicants should have a PhD and post-doctoral experience. The strongest candidates will be committed to combining teaching and research at a small liberal arts college and will be prepared to contribute to an integrative biology curriculum. Candidates with established field research programs or who can contribute to either the interdisciplinary Neuroscience or Environmental Studies majors are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent, active research program that can effectively engage motivated undergraduates from diverse backgrounds.

Teaching responsibilities include participation in a team-taught introductory course, an intermediate level course in animal physiology that includes laboratory and/or fieldwork, and an advanced seminar with research projects in an area of the applicant’s interest. The College offers competitive start-up packages to support faculty research and teaching, funds for travel to professional meetings, summer support of undergraduate research collaborators, and a generous sabbatical policy. The candidate will have space in a professionally staffed, state-of-the-art animal facility in a new building and will have the opportunity to design teaching and research laboratories, customized to their needs, in the same building.

Located in the suburbs of Philadelphia and near Wilmington DE, Swarthmore College is a highly selective liberal arts college whose mission combines academic rigor with social responsibility. Swarthmore has a strong institutional commitment to diversity, and actively seeks and welcomes applications from candidates with exceptional qualifications, particularly those with demonstrable commitments to a more inclusive society and world. Applicants from traditionally underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Please submit a cover letter, an up to date C.V., a research statement, a teaching statement, and three letters of recommendation. We also request that job applicants include a one-page “Contributions to Diversity Statement” with their application. In this statement the applicant should explain their experience with and plans to increase recruitment, retention, and success of diverse students. All application materials should be submitted using Interfolio at apply.interfolio.com/64108 by September 30, 2019. Questions regarding this position should be addressed to the Search Chair at AnimalPhys-search@swarthmore.edu.
