Assistant Professor

The Department of Pathology and Anatomy at the Eastern Virginia Medical School seeks an outstanding faculty researcher to join the newly established Center for Integrative Neuroscience and Inflammatory Diseases. The Center includes highly collaborative investigators with strong programs in atherosclerosis, HIV/SIV neuroimmunology, radiation neurobiology, sleep and stress. The successful applicant will be expected to actively participate in furthering the Center’s core research mission of understanding mechanisms at the neuro-immune interface that underlie normal functioning and disease. We are particularly interested in individuals utilizing cutting-edge methods in neuroimmunology and/or electrophysiology to examine the role of neuroinflammation in advanced models of neurological disease. There will also be opportunities for basic and translational collaborations with investigators in other institutional research focus areas including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and women’s health. Appointment will be a full time salaried, tenure track, faculty position at the ASSISTANT PROFESSOR level. A demonstrated ability or high potential for obtaining sustained extramural funding is required. All outstanding applicants will be fully considered.

EVMS is Southeastern Virginia’s premier medical education and research institution located in Norfolk’s historic Ghent neighborhood on an impressive and growing campus with access to world class hospitals. The school has a fully accredited biorepository and extensive core facilities with front-line equipment for flow cytometry, microscopy and imaging, molecular biology and proteomics to support research.

Responsibilities: The primary duties of the successful applicant will be to

  • Develop or maintain an extramurally funded research program
  • Participate in teaching medical and graduate students.
  • Participate in service activities of the school (e.g. service on committees)

Qualifications:  Successful applicants should have a PhD, MD or MD/PhD degree, and at least three years postdoctoral training with a strong track record of publications. Evidence of ability to obtain research funding is strongly recommended.                                                               

Rank and salary: The successful applicant will hold a full-time, salaried, academic appointment in the highly collegial Department of Pathology and Anatomy at the Assistant Professor level. Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience. A highly competitive start-up package and compensation with comprehensive benefits will be available.
