Research Scientist

The Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute (GCCRI) at the University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio is looking for an outstanding Research Scientist to work in the laboratory of Yuzuru Shiio, M.D., Ph.D.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates who have a strong background in molecular cell biology, particularly characterization of protein functions using cell culture, immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation, and immunofluorescence, and who have high-quality research publications. The ability to think and work independently is important for this position. The successful candidate will be a senior researcher in the lab, working in the environment where several senior ~ mid-level PhD-holding scientists are working on related projects, and therefore good interpersonal skills as well as collegiality is also important. The lab uses a combination of proteomics and molecular cell biology approaches to study cytokine signaling and fusion oncoproteins in childhood cancers. Please see the Shiio webpage at http://gccri.uthscsa.edu/YShiio.html for further information about our work.

Preferred qualifications: PhD in molecular cell biology with at least three years of postdoc experience and a record of high-quality research publications. Experience in mouse genetics or other specialized skills useful for our research would be a plus.

The successful candidate will receive extensive training on proteomics-based discovery (secretome proteomics to identify cytokines important in different children’s cancers, protein expression profiling of subcellular fractions and organelles, and interactome proteomics to identify novel protein – protein interactions) and follow-up of proteomic findings (molecular cell biological characterization of protein functions and signaling).

Interested candidates should apply through the UT Health San Antonio job site (https://uthscsa.referrals.selectminds.com/; Research Scientist # 19000914). In the application, please include the career goals, research experience and interests, curriculum vitae with publication record, and contact information for three references.

The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
