HOW TO APPLY: Please submit applications by e-mail to Dr. Roberto Botelho at rbotelho@ryerson.c.  Applicants should forward a cover letter, a brief research statement, curriculum vitae, and arrange to have two confidential academic letters of reference sent to Dr. Roberto Botelho at rbotelho@ryerson.ca.

Position goals: We welcome applications for a post-doctoral fellow (PDF) to conduct original research on one of two projects: i) the regulation and function of lysosome adaptation in immune cells or ii) regulation and function of phosphoinositide acyl specificity under the mentorship of Dr. Roberto Botelho. The first project is aimed at better understanding how macrophages and/or dendritic cells adapt their lysosomal system in response to infection signals and the functional outcomes for resolving infections, antigen presentation, and immunity. The second project will examine how cells establish the acyl specificity of phosphoinositide lipids and the functional importance of phosphoinositide acyl specificity. Both projects will be conducted using in mouse and cell culture models and employ a variety of genetics, cell biology, and biochemical tools that includes CRISPR-based genome editing, RNA-seq, BioID-based proteomics, and super-resolution microscopy.

Position responsibilities: In addition to conducting the above research, the PDF will be expected to take a leadership role in the lab, seek external funding opportunities to support his/her research, mentor junior members of the lab, and communicate his/her research findings through presentations at scientific conferences and publication in internationally-recognized journals.

Position requirements: Candidates should have a doctorate degree or expected to successfully defend their Ph.D. in the summer of 2019 in cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, or in another related field. Preference will be given to candidates that have acquired their Ph.D. in the last five years. Successful candidates will have strong expertise in at least some of the following approaches: fluorescence microscopy and image analysis, flow cytometry, molecular biology, work with mice, mammalian cell culture, systems biology, and immunology assays, among other relevant methods. Additionally, applicants must work well in a team-setting, and be collegial.

Position benefits: The Botelho lab is located at Ryerson University in the heart of Toronto, Canada, one of the most diverse and dynamic cities in the world. As part of Ryerson University’s vision, the research team is committed to offer an inclusive, diverse and equitable environment. Thus, candidates from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply to this position. In addition, the PDF will receive an annual salary and benefits commensurate with experience, have a dedicated desk and bench space, and access to infrastructure and financial resources to carry out the proposed research. The lab is located in the newly built, state-of-the-art biomedical research facilities at Ryerson University located in MaRS West Tower and is within one of the highest densities of research activity in North America, offering an unparalleled environment for networking and collaborating.
