Postdoctoral position available to study neural repair and axon regeneration

A postdoctoral position is available to study the exciting projects supported by NIH and other foundations in the Shriners Hospitals Pediatric Research Center at Temple University in Philadelphia. The major goals of our projects are to study neural damages, axon regeneration and myelination in the CNS and to develop effective therapeutic strategies for neural repair. These projects are aimed to: 1) investigate the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neuronal damage, growth failure and demyelination in the CNS, and 2) develop novel and effective approaches to promote neuronal regeneration and repair, remyelination, neuroplasticity and functional recovery after injuries or in neurodegenerative disorders. We employ various in vitro and in vivo research approaches, including molecular and cellular neurobiology, genetic and pharmacological methods, viral gene delivery, biochemistry, gene sequencing and multiple neuronal/axonal lesion models (such as spinal cord injury, optic nerve crush and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis) in rodents. We are highly interested in identifying new genes and signaling pathways that regulate neural function and regeneration with various molecular, transgenic and viral vector approaches. You are encouraged to find further information on the research program from our publications [see: Mol Ther. 2019 Jan 2;27(1):102-117; Brain Behav Immun. 2017 Oct;65:111-124; J Clin Invest. 2016 Jun 1;126(6):2321-33; Nature. 2015 Feb 19;518(7539):404-8; Biomaterials. 2014 May;35(16):4610-26; J Neurosci.  2011 Oct 5;31(40):14051-66; J Neurosci.  2010 Jan 20;30(3):963-72; J Neurosci. 2008 Sep 3;28(36):8914-28; J Neurosci. 2007 Apr 11;27(15):4154-64; J Neurosci. 2004 Nov 17;24(46):10511-20; Neuron. 2003 Apr 24;38(2):187-99, and Nature. 2002 May 30;417(6888):547-51]. Highly motivated individuals with a strong background in molecular and cellular neurobiology, viral vector, animal models (neuronal, axonal or myelin injury), histology, behavioral tests, biochemistry and genetic approaches are encouraged to apply. The candidates with research experience in neural repair, neuronal regeneration, myelination, viral vector generation, neurological disorder models and CNS injury will be considered favorably. Candidates should have a PhD, MD/PhD or equivalent in the field of neuroscience, molecular/cellular biology, biomedicine or biochemistry. Following appropriate training, the successful applicants will have ample opportunity to develop new research skills and to perform innovative and cutting-edge funded research projects. Successful applicants will be paid with NIH guideline-based salary plus benefits and will become the members of a high-motivated research team in collaborations with other excellent research labs. The research in our Center is focused on neural repair and regeneration and the Center provides outstanding research facilities and environment for various levels of trainees and scientists. Temple University is exceedingly diverse in all aspects of University life and is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Please send curriculum vitae or enquiry to Dr. Shuxin Li (Shuxin.li@temple.edu).
