TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN MICROBIOLOGY

Randolph-Macon College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Microbiology at the level of Assistant Professor to begin September 1, 2020.

The Randolph-Macon Biology Department is a growing and research-active community of nine tenured/tenure-track faculty with approximately 120 student majors and 60 student minors.  Randolph-Macon will welcome its first class of Nursing students in the Fall of 2019, and these students will also benefit from many of the Department’s course offerings.  Biology faculty are committed to delivering inquiry-driven science education and conducting research with undergraduate students, grounded in an innovative inquiry-driven introductory biology course sequence.  Research space, start-up funds, and funds for conference travel are available.  The successful candidate will also be eligible to apply for generous internal research grants.

Major/Essential Functions:  Randolph-Macon faculty teach, advise, conduct research, and serve the college and department.  Primary teaching responsibilities will include Microbiology, core Biology courses, upper-level courses in the successful candidate’s area of expertise, and courses that contribute to the general education curriculum.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Microbiology or a related field;

Commitment to teaching undergraduate students; and

Research plan in microbiology or a closely related field that will include undergraduates as collaborators.

Preferred Qualifications

Postdoctoral research training;

Experience teaching Microbiology as an instructor of record at the collegiate level;

Demonstrated effectiveness teaching undergraduates;

Research with the potential to engage students interested in human health and/or data science;

Evidence of advising/mentoring undergraduate students;

Evidence of working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds toward shared goals;

Evidence of success using pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential;

Experience with a liberal arts framework.
