Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies

(Environmental Health Scientist)

Middlebury College

The Program in Environmental Studies invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor with a focus in environmental health science, beginning fall 2020. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in environmental health science or related natural science field, including but not limited to toxicology, exposure science, or epidemiology, and demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and research. Postdoctoral experience preferred. The candidate's area of expertise should include the application of scientific perspectives and methodologies to issues of environmental health justice, such as health disparities associated with disproportionate exposures to air pollution or endocrine disrupting chemicals, or to chronic risks posed by climate change or energy production. Candidates whose teaching and scholarship complement current offerings in the environmental chemical sciences are particularly welcome.

Ability to teach introductory environmental science, an interdisciplinary team-taught seminar, and a community-engaged environmental studies practicum is essential. Other teaching responsibilities include courses in the candidate's area of specialization and occasional curricular contributions to winter term or the first-year seminar program. Research with undergraduate students is expected and strongly supported. The candidate will bring a rigorous scientific perspective on human health risk assessment to collaborative efforts among faculty in the natural and social sciences and the humanities to more fully integrate the study of environmental inequalities within the Environmental Studies curriculum.

Middlebury College and the Program in Environmental Studies are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community. The program is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the growing diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching, scholarship, and service.
