The Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems has campuses in Stuttgart and Tübingen. Our goal is to understand the principles of perception, action and learning in autonomous systems that successfully interact with complex environments and to use this understanding to design artificially intelligent systems. The Institute studies these principles in biological, computational, hybrid, and material systems ranging from nano to macro scales. We take a highly interdisciplinary approach that combines mathematics, computation, engineering, material science, physics, chemistry, and biology.

Join us at the Medical Systems Central Scientific Service Group, Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, Stuttgart, Germany. This service group is mentored by Prof. Dr. Metin Sitti and focuses, among other things, on scientific research service related to medical imaging, physics and instrumentation, medical miniature robot systems, and in vivo small animal (mouse and rat) experiments.

 

For our research activities, we are looking for a

 

Medical Imaging Scientist or Engineer

in full time

(m/f/d)

Your duties would be research and support on:

  • magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in a Bruker BioSpec 7T small animal MRI system;
  • changing our MRI system’s software and hardware to use it for magnetic actuation, localization, wireless communication and remote powering of miniature medical devices and robots inside an MRI;
  • ultrasound-based imaging, actuation, power transfer and drug delivery type of medical applications;
  • fluoroscopy (x-ray) imaging;
  • positron emission tomography (PET) imaging (also simultaneously with MRI imaging);
  • design and implementation of therapeutic and diagnostic medical functions for miniature medical robots using external magnetic fields, acoustic waves and light.

Your profile:

  • you have completed your PhD study;
  • you have a strong research background and research experience in medical physics or engineering, particularly in the areas of MRI physics, MRI; instrumentation, medical imaging techniques (MRI, PET, x-ray, ultrasound, etc.) and other medical instrumentation;
  • you have a strong journal publication record;
  • you have very good communication skills in English, both spoken and written;
  • you are used to working in teams and collaborating with other people.

Our offer:

An initial full-time employment contract will be offered for 1 year with the possibility of extension and a permanent position possibility later. Salaries will be based on TVöD guidelines according to previous experience and qualifications.
