Since its establishment in 1905, the Department of Anatomy has grown to become one of the largest Departments in the University. It is committed to excellence in its teaching and research.
The Department makes major contributions to the undergraduate and postgraduate education of students in science, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, medical laboratory sciences, and physical education. Its research activities fall within four interdisciplinary programmes encompassing: biological anthropology; clinical anatomy; neuroscience; reproduction, genomics and development.
The Department is seeking a dynamic teacher and researcher with energy and vision to pursue and engage in new opportunities in the area of clinical anatomy. This is a full-time, permanent (confirmation path) position. Applications for part-time positions may be considered for the right candidate.
We are seeking applications from academic/medical staff interested in appointments at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor Level. Appointment at the more senior levels will bring the expectation of leadership in teaching, research and/or service.
In this role, you will:
- Be committed to excellence in teaching and research.
- Contribute to clinical anatomy teaching (including curriculum development) at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels to Health Science (medical, dental, and physiotherapy) and Science students.
- Establish, develop and maintain an independent and on-going research programme with funding success.
- Participate in leadership within the clinical anatomy group, the Department and wider as appropriate.
Your skills and experience
The successful applicant will be expected to:
- Hold a PhD, M.D. (Doctor of Medicine), M.S. (Master of Surgery) or equivalent higher research/academic qualification. A medical/surgical professional qualification is highly desirable.
- Have a proven teaching record and a passion for teaching clinical/functional anatomy.
- Have effective communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to create a motivating environment for staff and students.
- Have proven research ability that aligns with the Department’s current research programmes.
- Provide evidence of an ability to work well with students and staff from differing academic and cultural backgrounds.
- A proven ability to provide mentorship to, and help develop the careers of, students and staff of the Department.
For senior appointment; please provide evidence of effective leadership in research and/or teaching.
For appointment as Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor, candidates will also have an on-going and active independent research programme with funding success. For appointment as Lecturer candidates will have the potential to develop such a programme.
