Postdoctoral Research Scholar

The Mobile Imaging, Sensing, and Diagnostics Lab at the North Carolina State University is seeking one postdoctoral candidate for developing in-line optochemical sensors for continuous monitoring of bioreactors. The research will be focused on studying and preparation of novel fluorescent hydrogel sensors for real-time measurement of key bioreactor parameters such as glucose, dissolved O2, dissolved CO2, and/or pH in cell culture media. The candidates are expected to have a recent Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or other related fields. Candidates with extensive training and expertise in smart hydrogels, polymer chemistry, optical sensors, fluorescent detection, and bioanalytical measurement are strongly encouraged to apply; In addition, research experience in fiber optics or sensor device prototyping will be considered as a plus. The successful candidate will be jointly mentored by Dr. Qingshan Wei, Assistant Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE), and Dr. Frances Ligler, Lampe Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at NC State.

Job responsibilities include:

  • The candidate is expected to lead the collaborative research project, execute the planned research activities, and deliver millstones in a timely fashion;
  • The candidate is expected to coordinate with a multidisciplinary team on a regular basis;
  • The candidate will be the key personnel to perform the experiments, collect/analyze data, and write manuscripts independently;
  • The candidate is expected to supervise undergraduate researchers in the group.

This position is full-time and includes standard benefits. The initial appointment will be for one year and renewable for additional years upon satisfactory performance and mutual agreement. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Review of applications will begin immediately until the position is filled. The preferred starting date will be no later than November, 2019.

Interested candidates should submit their applications here:
