About position

We invite applications for full-time research fellows in diverse technical areas which include (but not limited to): ophthalmology, life science, biomedicine, engineering, materials science.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria: 

  • Under the age of 40
  • Possesses a PhD degree
  • Holds a formal teaching or researching position in worldwide prestigious universities, institutions or enterprises (Exemption of this requirement may be made for those exceptional newly-graduated PhD candidates, who have strong research ability and great potential of becoming the academic or technical leader of his/her field). 

Remuneration package

Our salaries are competitive at an international level, ranging from $60,000 to $170,000 per year. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Successful applicants are also provided with sufficient research funds (from $70,000 to $700,000) and a generous housing allowance (from $60,000 to $350,000). For particularly distinguished candidates, a boutique apartment is applicable.

Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC) is a leading ophthalmology institution in China and the permanent headquarters of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO). Founded in 1832 by a Christian missionary from the United States, ZOC has nowadays become a top-tier ophthalmic center for medical treatment, education and research. It is nationwide reputed for its diverse disciplines, abundant faculty resources, cutting-edge medical techniques and modern medical equipment. The center is affiliated to Sun Yat-sen University, whereas it runs its own graduate program and enjoys unparalleled freedom in research, personnel employment and financial flexibility within the university. As the only state key laboratory supporting unit for ophthalmology in China, ZOC owns the largest ophthalmic lab in the world. The center has a total building area of over 117 thousand square meters, with 35 thousand square meters in Ouzhuang branch and 82 thousand square meters in Zhujiang New Town branch. There are over 80 laboratories housing state-of-the-art biomedical facilities. During the past three years, ZOC has published 140 articles as first author unit in SCI journals including top authoritative publication such as CNS.
