About the Simeone Diane, MD Laboratory: Pancreatic cancer detection, etiology, and treatment.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) is a highly fatal malignancy which is projected to become the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the Unites States in 2030 (Rahib et al., 2014; Siegel et al., 2018). PDA is characterized by delayed onset of symptoms, early metastasis, and frequent occurrence of resistance to clinically administered therapies. The main overarching goal of the Simeone laboratory is to identify mechanisms and cellular pathways that regulate pancreatic cancer initiation and progression, as well as developing novel more effective therapeutics.
We are focusing our efforts in the following main areas:

1. Introducing novel therapeutic approaches for DDR gene mutant pancreatic Cancer
2. The role of the pancreas immune microenvironment in disease progression.
3. The role of ATDC in pancreatic cancer development and progression

Our laboratory is looking to hire a postdoctoral fellow with a strong background in the fields of molecular biology, cell biology, cancer biology, or immunology. 

Dr. Simeone is an internationally renowned physician-scientist and currently the director of the NYU Pancreatic Cancer Center.  Our lab, established within the NYU Pancreatic Cancer Center uses multiple advanced genomic technologies to study the mechanisms of disease progression and to understand the biology underlying this process to define new targets for therapy.  The laboratory currently employs many different in vitro and in vivo approaches, including patient-derived organoids and tumor xenografts, as well as genetically engineered mouse models to characterize and validate new targets and therapeutic strategies. We seek individuals with a strong background in immunology, molecular biology, and biochemistry to work on projects interrogating the role of microenvironment and immune system in pancreatic cancer etiology and response to therapy. We have an expanding research program focusing on different molecular subtypes of pancreatic cancer, including HR-deficient PDA.  The successful candidate will be a driven, creative, team-oriented individual with a passion for translating key cancer biologic findings towards the clinical setting.

Requirements: Candidates should have a broad experience in cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology. Experience with animal models (xenograft or GEMM) and multicolor flow cytometry analysis is valued positively. A background in DNA damage signaling or immunology is desirable. Priority will be given to individuals with an outstanding publication record from their prior graduate and postgraduate training and/or existing extramural funding.
