Postdoctoral Research Fellow,

Michigan Life Sciences Fellows Program

The University of Michigan invites applications for a unique postdoctoral research program, the Michigan Life Sciences Fellows — a multidisciplinary community of scholars that provides mentorship focused on creating the next generation of leaders in the biosciences.

What the fellowship provides

The award fully funds three years of mentored postdoctoral work at our nationally ranked Medical School, College of Pharmacy, College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, or the Life Sciences Institute. The fellowship includes an annual stipend of $60,000 and subsidized benefits, $25,000 annually toward independent research, and a $2,000 annual travel stipend.

Fellows will conduct their research with a level of independence that prepares them to apply competitively for fully independent faculty positions at the end of fellowship.

Toward this goal, fellows will also be paired with a “mentoring committee” that includes their primary mentor, another leading U-M scientist in their field, and a prominent scientist from outside of U-M.

Beyond their individual laboratory research projects, the program will support fellows with additional training in a broad set of skills necessary for a successful career in research.

What we seek

The Michigan Life Sciences Fellows program seeks researchers of exceptional promise in the biological sciences with broad intellectual interests and a keen desire to pursue a career in research.

Applicants must be graduate students in their final year of schooling, or graduates less than one year post-degree (Ph.D., M.D., Pharm.D., M.D./Ph.D., or Pharm.D./Ph.D.) at the time of application. Candidates from outside of the U.S. are welcome.

Although this program is open to all, women, underrepresented minorities and first-generation college students are strongly encouraged to apply.

How to apply

For additional details about the program and our application process, please visit our website: https://lifescifellows.umich.edu/

Applications are due by September 16, 2019.

The selection process is highly competitive. Finalists will be invited to the University of Michigan campus on November 19 and 20, 2019 to present on their thesis work, with travel costs covered by the program.
