ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (C40NN) or ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (C30NN)

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Institute for Molecular Virology (IMV), in collaboration with the Departments of Oncology / McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research, Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, or Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, seek to hire a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor. The faculty hire is expected to develop a robust research program aimed at generating new insights into the replication and / or pathogenesis of viruses with DNA genomes. Candidates working on all aspects of DNA viral infections will receive full consideration, but with preference given to those focusing on DNA viral genome 3-D structure or epigenetic modification, or links between DNA viruses and antiviral defenses including intrinsic, innate, or adaptive immunity.

The successful candidate is expected to carry out a vigorous, collaborative, externally funded research program at the forefront of DNA virology, teach undergraduate, graduate and professional students in the tenure home departmental curricula, and participate in professional, university, and community service appropriate to rank.  An MD, or a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or a closely related field is required. Candidates should display a productive record of established scholarship of national and international significance in DNA virus biology. The appointment will be made at either the Assistant (tenure track) or Associate (tenured) Professor level based on the accomplishments of the successful candidate. Candidates for associate professor rank must meet criteria for appointment at rank per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines.

The IMV and tenure home department will act as interactive partners in this hire and will mutually support this position with substantial salary support, state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, and other resources. The deadline for ensuring full consideration is September 15, 2019, however applications may be considered until the position is filled. Applications must be submitted through our online UW Job Application system https://jobs.wisc.edu/. MD applicants use PVL#98569 and PhD applicants use PVL#98543.  Please note that only one vacancy exists. Applicants will be asked to upload a curriculum vitae (CV), a 2 page description of research accomplishments and future directions, and to arrange for three professional references to be submitted on your behalf. We promote excellence through diversity, encourage all qualified individuals to apply, and strongly encourage applications from candidates who foster and promote the values of diversity and inclusion.
