Job Details

The Superti-Furga laboratory at CeMM in Vienna is contributing to the scientific fundaments of precision medicine. The scientific work of the laboratory addresses the molecular mechanisms by which cells respond to challenges that perturb homeostasis, may these challenges be drugs or environmental changes, and how homeostasis can subsequently be restored. Strategically, the laboratory investigates large networks of proteins, genes and metabolites, while also focusing on the mechanistic understanding of individual proteins, protein complexes and drug function. In recent years, the laboratory has focused on understanding the interplay of membrane transporters, which can be considered the managers of the interface between chemistry and biology, and between organisms and their environment.

We are currently looking for an experienced, highly-motivated Scientific Project Manager to join the Superti-Furga laboratory at CeMM to coordinate and manage the prestigious RESOLUTE project (www.re-solute.eu), a public-private research partnership supported by the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI, www.imi.europa.eu) with 13 partners from academia and the pharmaceutical industry. The overarching goal of RESOLUTE is to trigger an escalation in the appreciation and intensity of research on solute carriers (SLCs) worldwide and to establish SLCs as a tractable target class for medical research and development.

In this challenging position unifying science and management, you will work together closely with CeMM’s Scientific Director, Giulio Superti-Furga, and a team of international top scientists. In the role of the project manager you will be responsible for all activities along the project cycle of the RESOLUTE project (https://re-solute.eu/) and focus on two things: on one hand coordinate all the RESOLUTE activities within CeMM and on the other hand coordinate these activities with the other 12 RESOLUTE partners. An additional overall project manager coordinating the 13 partners with each other will be your second key partner next to the laboratory head. On a day-to-day basis you will monitor the project status and the project progress in Vienna, you will set project goals and ensure the achievement of defined milestones. You will help the team to put their plans into practice and you will organize regular project meetings to ensure effective communication within the project team. On a regular basis, you will communicate with the additional partners. This role combines scientific work and project management, and is perfectly suited for scientists with previous project management experience, organizational talent and strong communication skills.

Your profile

  • PhD degree in science
  • Scientific seniority, with  more than 3 years of postdoctoral experience and seniority equivalent to group leader (industry or academia)
  • Proven experience in project management and the coordination of multi-centric studies/grants
  • Expertise in transporter biochemistry or in large-scale approaches at systems biology-level are of advantage
  • Organizational talent with excellent time management skills
  • Experience with grant writing paired with writing talent
  • Excellent communication skills

The Laboratory

The Superti-Furga laboratory consists of a highly collaborative team of 30 scientists from 12 nations. In the last three years, we published about 70 papers, among which 10% in Nature, Science or Cell and 15 in Nature sister journals. Please visit our lab’s website: www.superti-furga-lab.at
