The University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) invites applications and nominations for endowed chair of the Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience within the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

UNTHSC is one of the nation's distinguished graduate academic health science centers, located on 33 acres in Fort Worth’s Cultural District. UNTHSC’s mission is to create solutions for a healthier community by being an extraordinary team, committed to excellence and unafraid to challenge conventional wisdom. The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) at UNTHSC, established in 1993, is proud of its prominent role in shaping the future of the biomedical workforce. The graduate curriculum is individual development plan (IDP)-driven and competency-based. It provides students with a broad foundation of knowledge in the biomedical sciences and promotes a team approach to solving complex problems essential to understanding the biological principles that govern health and disease.

The Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience is internationally recognized and committed to biomedical research, education of future health care providers, graduate training and community outreach. The P&N department is a faculty home for two research institutes that organize and sponsor translational multidisciplinary research efforts in aging and neurodegenerative disease (Institute for Healthy Aging) and visual sciences (North Texas Eye Research Institute). The pharmacology and neuroscience faculty maintain active research programs in the following areas: aging and Alzheimer’s disease; drug discovery; glaucoma and ocular pharmacology; learning and memory; neurobiology of drug and alcohol abuse; neuronal degeneration and protection; neuropsychopharmacology; pharmacogenetics; and receptors and ion channels.

The desired candidate will qualify for tenure at the full professor level in an academic department at UNTHSC and have demonstrated ability to mentor and develop faculty, a distinguished record of extramural funding such as NIH, NSF, EPA, etc., demonstrated experience in building externally funded multi-disciplinary and translational research programs that span multiple research paradigms and models, prior experience fostering and creating highly successful cross-disciplinary teams spanning basic, applied, clinical, population health and other expertise for programmatic translational research and the capacity to build a culture of collaboration across disciplines, departments and schools for research and education.
