Assistant Professor in Nutritional Sciences

The Department of Biochemistry invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor in Nutritional Sciences. The Department of Biochemistry offers undergraduate degree programs in both Biochemistry and Nutrition, as well as a robust graduate program. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to nutrition and metabolism teaching for both the undergraduate and graduate programs. The successful applicant will be expected to develop an independent, externally funded research program that should incorporate a translational approach in pre-clinical and/or clinical models of nutritional science and metabolism related to human health and chronic disease. Those studying the role of nutrition as it pertains to aging or exercise science are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate may utilize a variety of experimental approaches but their research program must be primarily pre-clinical (i.e. animal models) or clinical (e.g. human feeding or biomarker studies). It is also envisaged that through the establishment of new collaborations the successful applicant will further strengthen ties between the Department of Biochemistry, the School of Human Kinetics and Recreation, and the Faculty of Medicine.

Applicants should have a strong background in nutrition and metabolism, with a Ph.D. in one of these areas, or a closely related field. The successful applicant will have an established track record of research, and at least two years post-doctoral experience. Interested applicants should submit a 1) cover letter, 2) full CV, 3) summary of proposed research (no more than three pages), 4) description of teaching experience and philosophy (no more than three pages), and 5) a list of at least three referees with complete contact information.

All parts of the applications should be submitted as a single pdf document to Dr. Mark Berry, Head of Department, at biochem@mun.ca by not later than September 2, 2019, using the subject heading “Nutritional Sciences tenure-track position” and quoting the position number F03952-2019-37. We thank all interested applicants, but only those selected for interview will be contacted further.

The position is subject to budgetary approval. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority. Memorial University is committed to employment equity and diversity and encourages applications from all qualified candidates, including women; people of any sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression; Indigenous peoples; visible minorities, and racialized people; and people with disabilities. As part of Memorial University’s commitment to employment equity, all applicants are invited to identify themselves as a member of a target group(s) as appropriate. Applicants cannot be considered as a member of a target group(s) unless they complete an employment equity survey. If you do not receive a survey or have any questions, please contact equity@mun.ca.
