Postdoctoral positions in Computational Biology
Influenza Systems Biology Lab
Two postdoc positions are available in the areas of Computational Biology at the Influenza Systems Biology Laboratory, which is affiliated across Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, School of Medicine, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, College of Engineering, Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine, and Informatics Institute at University of Missouri (MU). The lab is physically located at MU Bond Life Science Center. The mission of this lab is to study ecology, evolution, and host-pathogen interactions for emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, especially influenza viruses by developing and applying integrated, multi-scale, and evidence-based approaches that combining laboratory, clinical and computational methods. The responsibilities of the position are to develop and apply computational algorithms to predict phenotypes (e.g. antigenicity, replication ability, receptor binding preference, transmission risks, and pathogenesis risks) of influenza viruses using genomic sequences, to design influenza antigens, and/or to study evolutionary pathways of influenza viruses. This position requires a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Evolutionary Biology, Biological Sciences, or a related field. US citizenship is not required. Basic programming skills are required. For one position, prior experience in machine learning is preferred; for the second position, prior experience in analyzing large scale of omics data (e.g. genomes, proteomics and/or glycomics) are preferred.
